Scanty food intake and slow feeding The aged should not eat too much, but eat for more times, a small amount at each time. Active physical training cannot only promote the circulation of Qi and blood, delay ageing, but also produce a favorable mental stimulation to make people vigorous. This has the active actions of eliminating loneliness, ageing, melancholy, suspiciousness, mania, restlessness of the mind, irascibility, etc.
The physical training should be moderate in duration and amount, constant in efforts, and proceed in an orderly way and step by step in accordance with individual condition. Before physical training, old people should have the overall physical examination to understand the health status and whether they have serious diseases or not. Under the guidance of the doctor, the aged may select the suitable sports events and properly control the intensity, speed and duration of the sports activity. It is suitable to have a small amount of exercise, slow and rhythmical movements. The suitable events include Tai Chi Chuan (taiji quan), five mimic animal games, eight section brocade, jogging , talking a walk, swimming, table tennis, badminton, gymnastic exercise for the aged, etc. Old people may have the above events once or twice a day. But they cannot have the physical training in bad climate, nor can they have it in starvation. |
